Your lease-end timeline
- 6 months out: the best time to start. Tell us your end date, current miles and what you want next. We watch the monthly programs for your next car and check whether your current car has equity.
- 3 months out: still plenty of time. We get your buyout figure, compare your options with real numbers and send a written quote on your next car.
- 1 month out: lock in the next car. You fill out the secure Credit Application, sign electronically and pick a delivery day.
- Delivery day: we bring the new car to you and take your old one back on the same visit.
Lease ends in 3 months? Do these 4 things this week
- Find your end date and buyout price. Both are in your lease agreement or your leasing company’s app.
- Check your miles. Compare your odometer with the mileage allowed in your contract so there are no surprises at turn-in.
- Ask your leasing company about buyouts. Some leasing companies limit who can buy out a lease, so ask whether a dealer buyout is allowed for your car.
- Send us your car, miles and end date. Text (267) 216-6659 or use the quote form, and we’ll come back with your options and a written quote on the next car.
What happens at the end of a car lease
When your lease term wraps up (typically 24, 36 or 39 months after signing), you’ll receive a notice from your lender with instructions for what comes next. At that point you have three main options: return the vehicle and walk away, buy it out at the pre-set residual price, or use your current lease as a stepping stone into a new one. Each path has a different financial profile, and the right one depends on your mileage, the vehicle’s condition and what you want to drive next.
We help PA, NJ and DE drivers navigate this moment without the pressure of going directly to a dealership. We review your lease agreement, estimate any excess mileage or wear charges, and present each option in plain terms. There’s no obligation, and the guidance is free.
Option 1: Return the vehicle and walk away
Returning the vehicle is the simplest option. You schedule a pre-return inspection through your lender (usually 30–90 days before your end date), bring the car to an authorized dealer and hand back the keys. If you’re within your mileage limit and the car is in acceptable condition, you walk away with no further obligation.
The main risks at return are excess mileage charges (typically 15–25 cents per mile over the contract) and wear-and-tear fees for damage beyond normal use: deep scratches, cracked windshields or damaged tires. Scheduling the inspection early gives you time to fix these on your own terms, which is almost always cheaper than letting the lender assess them.
Option 2: Buy out your lease at the residual value
Every lease includes a residual value: the price you locked in at signing for buying the car at the end of the term. If used car prices have risen since then, your residual may be well below what the vehicle is worth today. In that case a buyout makes real financial sense: you’re buying a car for less than its market value.
To evaluate a buyout, compare your residual against current listings and instant-offer tools. If the residual is above market value, returning is usually better. You can finance a buyout through the captive lender or bring your own financing from a bank or credit union, often at a better rate. We’ll run the comparison with you before your end date.
Option 3: Roll into a new lease
If you want to stay in a new car, rolling into another lease is often the cleanest option, and it can be structured as a zero down lease if the timing and incentives line up. Many automakers offer loyalty programs for returning lessees: Honda, Toyota, BMW, Subaru and others provide loyalty cash or better money factors on the next vehicle.
We handle the turn-in and the new lease at the same time, so you can hand over your current car the day your new one is delivered, anywhere in PA, NJ and DE, at no extra charge.
Talk to us before your end date
Need out before your end date? See how to get out of a lease early, or trade it in toward your next car.
The earlier you start, the more leverage you have. Lease-end decisions made with 90+ days of runway are almost always better financially than ones made in the final two weeks. Your end date is on the front page of your lease agreement.
Call +1 (267) 216-6659 or fill out the quote form. We’ll pull up your lease terms and walk through each option with real numbers, with no dealership visit, no pressure, no fee for the consultation.
